In recent years Costa Rico has become more famous for its surfing rather than its coffee ,but this small Central American nation has been know for its coffees for some time. Costa Rican coffee has set the standards the rest of Central America. The most famous coffees by region are Tarrazu, Tres Rios, HerediĆ”, and Alajuela. Most coffee in Costa Rica comes from the caturra coffee varietal. Other popular Costa Rica coffee varieties are Mondo Novo and Catuai. The best Costa Rican coffee beans are grown above 3,900 feet, in the rich volcanic soil that gives the coffee a full body with lower acidity.
I recently had the opportunity to try some coffee from a little know importer sold under the Costa Rican banner ,the coffee was rich with low acidity . It was full flavored but not hard or over powering. The second cup went down as easy as the first. This Coffee retails for $4.99 for 8.8 oz bag
