Zion Ama Dio

An inside perspective of an African American fashion model exploring European fashion markets

Zion Ama Dio is a new face model currently working between Paris and  New York City but before his adventure to the big apple, he lived in Germany, France and the United Kingdom working as model, hair stylist, and makeup artist.

Ama Dio felt in order to grow an individual and progress in his career in fashion he would need to expand his horizons for education purposes and reach into different business markets. Thus, exploring the European fashion market has enabled him to develop in fashion at a faster rate than the American market.

Prior to his trip to Europe, Ama Dio rarely heard of any successful African American male models career in Europe. Of course, most people heard of Tyra Banks establishing her haute couture career in Paris, France at age seventeen, but there haven’t been any African American male models who receive publicity for their careers in Europe. So why take the risk and move to another country to jump start a career. Why not?

What most people don’t know is there is a substantial market for African American models in Europe because that’s the business market. Most European models are working for American brands and advertisements because they are considered exotic and rare. Plus, it sells in America. The same correlation can be applied in Europe, with American models. Europeans loved that Americans are livelier and express more personality than any European culture and are considered rare in Europe markets.

Dyker Heights Christmas lights

Dyker Heights Christmas lights

Since 1984 or 1985 (accounts vary) the lights of Dyker Heights have become increasing more popular with New Yorkers. They have been featured in several newspaper articles, on news programs and in documentaries.

Early on, the two most noted homes were on 84th Street, between 11th and 12th avenues, directly across from one another. The home of Lucy Spata with her Santa theme at 1152 84th St and that of Alfred Polizzotto with his Nutcracker motif at 1145 84th St.

Spata, who claims to have started the whole thing, has her home covered in up to 30K lights, illuminated soldiers, choirboys, and other Christmas figures. The inside is decorated with 50 motorized dolls, miniature villages and many gifts. Outside Santa, played by her nephew, greets children and others who pass by.

Across the street, the white mansion owned by Alfred Polizzotto is adorned with a pair of 29-foot (8.8 m) high wooden soldiers which stand guard and wave their arms. The front lawn has rearing horses and a quartet of dancers. In 1988, Polizzotto was diagnosed with lymphoma, which was successfully treated the following year. To celebrate his triumph over the disease , Polizzotto mounted the display every year until 2001 when he passed away. His family has continued the tradition in his honor.

Every year these displays get bigger and better. Some people now even employ professional decorating companies to the tune of between 5K and up to 20K to design and put up their lights.

SEXY NEW TREND

Boudoir photography is a sexy new trend that’s especially popular as a holiday gift for your man. Boudoir photos are usually taken wearing either just a little, or well, nothing at all. They’re hardly X-rated though, but rather PG-13 — as in classic pinup-inspired pics, or what the pros call ‘implied nudes.’ That means you’re not wearing anything, but you’re also not showing off anything either (think shot from the back, or lying on your stomach).

Boudoir Sessions are priced according to the number of looks, a look being defined as an outfit and a background/lighting concept that supports the outfit. Book your Session see website for prices:  www.ArtChickPhotograpahy.com

Macy's Parade Balloon Inflation

 Macy's Parade Balloon Inflation

The balloon inflation takes place the afternoon/evening before Thanksgiving Day. For 2012, the balloon inflation will be Wednesday, November 21 from 3-10 p.m.

Where is the Macy's Parade Balloon Inflation?:
The public entrance to the Macy's Parade Balloon Inflation is located at 79th Street and Columbus Avenue.

Subway to the Macy's Parade Balloon Inflation: B or C to 81st Street/Museum of Natural History

Map of the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade Balloon Inflation Viewing Area

Tips for Going to the Macy's Parade Balloon Inflation:

The earlier you arrive, the less crowded it will be (but the less impressive it will be).

Balloons begin taking shape around 4:30-5 p.m., making that a great time to try to visit.

Last admission to the balloon inflation area is at 9:15 p.m.

The path for the balloon inflation winds around the American Museum of Natural History, beginning at 79th and Columbus and travels along Columbus Avenue, 77th Street, Central Park South and 81st Streets.

Taking public transit to the balloon inflation is highly recommended -- crowds will make parking nearby nearly impossible and access to the area difficult for taxis.

Once the perfect show for St. Patricks Day

"Once" is The PERFECT show for this weekend.  It utterly screams "ST. PATRICK'S DAY".  It's set in Dublin, about Irish street musicians, and the setting is a PUB.  It's comedic, romantic, and the music is truly brilliant.  Refer to the agent reviews I sent out last week for further details- many people have had quite visceral reactions to this production. .

Great sales pitch: what are your St. Patrick's Day plans? Have you seen "Once"?

St. Patrick's Day Parade 2012

St. Patrick's Day Parade 2012

Saturday, March 17, 2012

The Parade starts at 44th Street at 11:00 am and marches up Fifth Avenue past St. Patrick's Cathedral at 50th Street all the way up past the American Irish Historical Society at 83rd and the Metropolitan Museum of Art at 83rd Street to 86th Street, where the parade finishes at around 4:30 - 5:00 pm.

BEST VIEWING: To avoid the crowds that pack the sidewalks below 59th Street, go anywhere North of 66th Street and Fifth Avenue.  The upper steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art provide a great view. You can get a close-up view of the marchers at 86th Street where the Parade route ends and the marchers disband and embark to go home or to celebrate.

PS: Public drinking of alcohol is strictly forbidden during the parade. Anyone found drinking can be ticketed and arrested, and police will confiscate all alcoholic beverages.

Linsanity Sweeps New York

Linsanity Sweeps New York
PJ Blogger
Feb.16,2012

(NEW YORK- NEW YORK) New York Knick Jeremy Lin just scripted his most thrilling finish yet just in time for the Knicks’ longest homestand of the season. With the Knicks winning streak now at 7 its become what is now called pure Linsanity for the first of five straight games at Madison Square Garden.

Lin's success has even surprised some of his most ardent supporters starting the season sleeping on the couch wondering if his contract would be renewed .Lin's emergence has finally given spark to a team that frankly fans had given up on for years of lack luster lazy play. Now ticket prices at the Garden have skyrocketed . Leaving  fans more excited about the chemistry than anytime since the days of Willis Reed, Earl "the Peal" Monroe and Walt Frazier .

MSG ratings have surged as Lin has now turned the Knicks into must-see TV with ratings are up a whopping 87 percent .Linsanity may even finally bring and end to the MSG-Time Warner Cable war.Sellout crowds and congrats form the White House have left Lin humbled and the mild mannered Harvard graduate has continued in interview after interview to praise his teammates and coaches for a job well done.

The seasons early high hopes seemed to vanish into the same old Knicks but now fans are proclaiming the Knicks are back and with the slated return of Carmelo Anthony to join Lin and Stoudemire the players and fans are looking for big things from this team.

(NEW YORK - NY) “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” has broken the Broadway record for single-week gross racking up $2.9 million  The previous record was held by  “Wicked” set earlier last year. Spider-Man box-office gross for the week ending New Year’s Day topped a previous record by more than $700,000.

Producers Michael Cohl and Jeremiah Harris told the Daily News  Tuesday ,“We are thrilled that the public has taken such a liking to this show,” . They continued , “The audience continues to grow, and it is great to enter the New Year with such momentum.”The record-breaking week, saw 17,375 people packed The Foxwood Theatre, setting another Broadway mark for single-week attendance.

The musical’s reversal of fortune comes when many thought the show was DOA..Critics had written it off during its lengthy preview run.Several actors were injured on the job and the stage was considered unsafe..The play featuring the music of U2’s Bono and Edge suffered a series of on and off stage set backs ,some even claiming the show was cursed placing it on the brink of becoming Broadway’s biggest flop ever. The production began its turn around after director Julie Taymor left, the book was overhauled and it officially opened in June steadily building an audience since.
