The Mermaid Parade is the largest art parade in the nation. A celebration of ancient mythology and honky-tonk rituals of the seaside, it showcases over 3,000 creative individuals from all over the five boroughs and beyond, opening the summer with incredible art, entrepreneurial spirit and community pride. The parade highlights Coney Island Pageantry based on a century of many Coney parades, celebrates the artistic vision of the masses, and ensures that the summer season is a success by bringing hundreds of thousands of people to the amusement area in a single day.

The MERMAID PARADE specifically was founded in 1983 with 3 goals: it brings mythology to life for local residents who live on streets named Mermaid and Neptune ; it creates self-esteem in a district that is often disregarded as “entertainment”; and it lets artistic New Yorkers find self-expression in public.

Unlike most parades, this one has no ethnic, religious, or commercial aims. It’s a major New York holiday invented by artists! An American version of the summer-solstice celebration, it takes pride of place with West African Water Festivals and Ancient Greek and Roman street theater. It's features participants dressed in hand-made costumes based on themes and categories set by us. This creates an artistic framework on which artists can improvise, resulting in the flourishing of frivolity, dedication, pride, and personal vision that has become how New York celebrates summer.

It is a mission to get out there. Below is information for guests on transportation. All car companies will have a minimum. As an example, Golden Touch is requiring a 6 hour minimum just to make a reservation.

DRIVING Traveling South on the Cross Island Parkway: • Use 26D for access to the Green Parking Lot or Exit 26B for access to the Hempstead Avenue entrance Traveling North on the Cross Island Parkway • Use Exit 26A for access to the Yellow Parking Lot or Exit 26B for access to the Hempstead Avenue entrance Parking Areas For ease of entry and exiting of Belmont Park, guests are encouraged to park in a lot based on their planned arrival route.  BELMONT SHUTTLE For your convenience, shuttle buses will continuously run throughout the parking lots during the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival, June 4-6, to bring guests to the following entrances at Belmont Park: Clubhouse Main Entrance, Paddock Gate and West Paddock Gate, commonly known as the Bus Gate.

 LIRR LIRR Trains will be running throughout the day and evening throughout the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival. With large crowds expected on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6 of the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival, we encourage our guests to stay in Belmont Park and enjoy our post-race concerts featuring O.A.R. and the Goo Goo Dolls. This will significantly reduce your wait time while exiting the facility. Also, we encourage our guests to purchase round-trip admission in order to further expedite their travels. Please note, immediately following the Belmont Stakes race on Saturday, June 6 until Belmont Park closes, trains will depart approximately every 15 minutes to Jamaica, Brooklyn and New York. Additionally, trains will continue to run following the O.A.R. concert on Friday, June 5 until Belmont Park closes. Play Ball : It is opening day at Yankee Stadium!

It is opening day at Yankee Stadium! The sun will be shining and it will be a balmy 60 degrees!

The Yankees will be taking on the Toronto Blue Jays at 1pm. Masahiro Tanaka is pitching for the Yankees and Drew Hutchison for the Blue Jays.

And Alex Rodriguez returns after his 162 game suspension.

Security will be increased at all major league stadiums this season, and the Yankees are encouraging fans to get to the Stadium early both on Monday and throughout the season.

Metal detectors will be located at all gates, and fans will be subject to screening and having their bags checked, the result of MLB working with the Department of Homeland Security. As has been the policy of recent years, all bags will be checked, and only MLB-compliant bags - 16 in. x 16 in. x 8 in. or smaller - will be admitted.

Because of the new measures, Yankee Stadium gates will open to ticket-holders 2¹/₂ hours before the scheduled start time of games.

2015 Easter Parade NYC

On Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015 you have the opportunity to see Easter bonnets to the New York City extreme as "paraders" wander along Fifth Avenue from 49th to 57th Streets. The area around St. Patrick's Cathedral is the ideal place to see the parade. The Easter Parade and Easter Bonnet Festival runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

What You Should Know About the Easter Parade and Easter Bonnet Festival

Unlike most New York City Parades, the Easter Parade is a far less organized event. From 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. the area along Fifth Avenue from 49th to 57th Streets is closed to vehicular traffic, and folks wander the street admiring various Easter Bonnets and Easter outfits. Visitors in town during Easter will enjoy stopping by the area for a bit during the festivities, but seeing the various Easter bonnets and costumed pets is probably only worth a short visit.

The Parade will take place on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 starting at 11 a.m. on 5th Avenue around 44th Street.

Toward the north end of the St. Patrick's Day Parade route are the best viewing spots if you want to avoid the crowds that throng the sidewalks below 59th Street.

The Parade ends at 79th Street, around 2 or 3 p.m. Keep in mind that the grandstands are located between 62nd and 64th Streets, so that area is accessible only with a ticket, but if you score a spot close to the grandstands, you might be able to see the marchers performing for the judges. The crowd is densest at St. Patrick's Cathedral and in the area immediately around there and tends to lessen as you move north along the parade route.
