A CHRISTMAS STORY THE MUSICAL STARTS TONIGHT

A CHRISTMAS STORY THE MUSICAL STARTS TONIGHT

A Christmas Story, The Musical is the hilarious account of one boy's desperate quest to ensure that the one thing he want most in the world ends up under his tree this Christmas: an official Red Ryder Carbine-Action 200-shot Range Model Air Rifle. Based on the beloved 1983 holiday movie, this delightful musical comedy takes a nostalgic look back at the 1940s-era childhood holiday memories of one Ralphie Parker. Dan Lauria (The Wonder Years) leads a cast that also features three other returning cast members from the 2012 Broadway debut, as well as funny and heartfelt songs by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul, with a faithful yet inventive book by Joseph Robinette. Young and old alike will delight in watching Ralphie's wacky family muddle through the Yuletide with heart, humor -- and one incredibly tacky leg lamp.

The ING New York City Marathon

The ING New York City Marathon

Sunday, November 3rd  2013 , Beginning @ 8:30am

http://www.ingnycmarathon.org/spectator_guide.htm

Where to Watch the New York City Marathon:

 http://running.about.com/od/marathonsandreviews/a/nycmarathonfan.htm

The race has official cheering zones throughout the course. Here are some great viewing locations...:

Manhattan:

First Avenue (Miles 16-19). The biggest crowds on the course line the streets on First Avenue, giving the runners a boost as they head toward the Bronx. After you see your runner go by, you can walk west to 5th Avenue or Central Park to catch him again before they finish. If you plan on doing this, just make sure you stand on the west side of First Avenue, since crossing First Avenue can be almost impossible. If you're going to watch here, it's very important to tell your runner exactly where you'll be (for example, northwest corner of 87th and First) so they'll know where to look. The crowds are so deep on First Avenune that it's very easy to miss people.

Fifth Avenue (Mile 23). Runners go up a gradual incline as they run up Fifth Avenue, and they'll definitely be seeking motivation at this point.

Central Park South (Mile 25). Huge crowds here support the runners as they head toward the finish line. This is a great spot to watch the drama unfold if the elite race is close.

Getting Around Central Park:

Manhattan's Central Park is home to the last three miles of the race, including the finish line on West Drive at West 67th Street, next to the famous Tavern on the Green restaurant. Central Park will be packed with runners, spectators, and race officials and some access points will be blocked. So getting around the park is difficult. Here are some ways you can maneuver around the park on race day:

Get a spot in the park between East 90th and East 86th streets. This area is a little less crowded than points farther south, and you'll be able to get cross the park via the Transverse Road at 85th Street.

Park Drive below East 72nd Street gets crowded. But if you go to the East Green at East 69th Street, there is plenty of room and you can get quick access to the 65th Street Transverse.

Crossing Park Drive (where the runners will be) is prohibited, but you can get across the busy road by going underneath it. Use these underpasses: Greywacke Arch at 80th Street, Trefoil Arch at 73rd Street, Willowdell Arch at 67th Street, and Inscope Arch at 62nd Street.

If you're expecting to watch your runner cross that beautiful finish line at Tavern on the Green, don't get your hopes up. Unless you're a race participant, finish line volunteer, race official, or have reserved seats in the bleachers, you won't be able to see much.

Once is a unique theatre experience.

Once is a unique theatre experience.

Once is a unique theatre experience.  In the musical, the cast also serves as the orchestra. A minimalist set is used, including a bar in center stage with chairs lining stage left and right. Exiting cast members simply step to the side of the stage and sit down. They serve as the orchestra from these chairs. The bar is used at intermission as a working bar for refreshments.  The audience can go on stage and have a drink on the set!!

Nice love story great for couples looking for something to see. Definitely a “boyfriend/husband-approved” show

Rockefeller Center Ice Rink is Open

Rockefeller Center Ice Rink is Open

Rockefeller Center Ice Rink Season:

The rink at Rockefeller Center typically opens Columbus Day weekend and stays open through early April.

Skating Sessions:

Skate rentals and admissions are charged per session. Time your visit appropriately to get the most skating for your money.

Admission:

Rates vary depending upon the time of day, day of the week and even change throughout the season. Adult admission is typically $20-25 and children are $12-15. There are also lunchtime skating sessions that cost just $5 offered until early November 5. Skate Rentals are an additional $10. Group rates offer significant discounts. Check the Ice Rink at Rockefeller Center website for the most current information.

While many people consider the skating rink Rockefeller Center’s most singular feature, few realize is that it was an accident. The Sunken Plaza, as the area was originally called, was lushly landscaped and boasted high-end shops and restaurants, but few people could be enticed down the stairs leading from the Channel Gardens. In the winter of 1936, in an effort to attract attention to the Plaza, Rockefeller Center’s managers contracted an engineer from Cleveland to build a temporary rink. It became a permanent fixture. With a skating surface that stretches just 122 feet long and 59 feet wide, the rink can only accommodate up to 150.

The Museum of Modern Art, The Menil Collection , Surrealist years of RenƩ Magritte,

This exhibition, co-organized by The Museum of Modern Art, The Menil Collection, Houston, and The Art Institute of Chicago, is the first to focus exclusively on the breakthrough Surrealist years of RenĆ© Magritte, creator of some of the 20th century’s most extraordinary images. Beginning in 1926, when Magritte first aimed to create paintings that would, in his words, “challenge the real world,” and concluding in 1938

Lovers of Magritte’s coy style, his peculiar silences and intriguing enigmas will find plenty to enjoy in “Magritte: The Mystery of the Ordinary, 1925-1938.” Many of the most famous works are here, representing the artist’s conversion to and development of his signature surrealist style, in which the faces are blank, the settings spare, and everything is rendered with the clarity and rigorous design of commercial art, yet cognizant of the stylistic games of modernism and the history of academic and classical art.

This is the hot one, lines have been forming every day.best to get tickets in advance from your hotel concierge desk  to skip the lines.

87th ANNUAL FEAST OF SAN GENNARO TO TAKE PLACE SEPTEMBER 12-22, 2013

87th ANNUAL FEAST OF SAN GENNARO TO TAKE PLACE SEPTEMBER 12-22, 2013

The 87th Annual Feast of San Gennaro will be held in Little Italy for 11 days from Thursday, September 12, through Sunday, September 22, 2013, on the streets of historic Little Italy, the lower Manhattan neighborhood which served as the first home in America for hundreds of thousands of Italian immigrants who came here seeking to improve their lives beginning in the early part of the 20th century.

Presented annually since 1996 by Figli di San Gennaro, Inc. (Children of San Gennaro), a not-for-profit community organization dedicated to keeping alive the spirit and faith of the early Italian immigrants, this year’s Feast is expected once again to attract more than one-million people from the four corners of the globe to the streets of Little Italy to participate in the annual Salute to the Patron Saint of Naples.

Although this is an annual celebration of faith, the Feast of San Gennaro is known the world over for its festive atmosphere, an 11-day event featuring religious processions and colorful parades, free musical entertainment every day, a wide variety of ethnic food delicacies, charming restaurants and cafes and even a world-famous cannoli-eating competition! The central focus of the celebration takes place every September 19th, the official Saint Day when a celebratory Mass is held in Most Precious Blood Church, followed immediately by a religious procession in which the Statue of San Gennaro is carried from its permanent home in the church through the streets that comprise Little Italy.

"This Feast of San Gennaro holds a special place in the place of Italian people everywhere,” says Joseph Mattone, President of Figli di San Gennaro, Inc. "It is a festive period of faith and redemption, a time for remembrance and reconciliation, and a time for celebration. The delicious food, the free musical entertainment that reflects Italian-American culture and heritage are all there. The Feast brings the world to Little Italy and Little Italy to the world.”

Electric Zoo 2013 Cancelled

Electric Zoo 2013 Cancelled

"The founders of Electric Zoo send our deepest condolences to the families of the two people who passed away this weekend. Because there is nothing more important to us than our patrons, we have decided in consultation with the New York City Parks Department that there will be no show today."

nyc.gov-"Due to serious health risks, the Electric Zoo music festival on Randall's Island on Sunday, September 1st has been cancelled. The City recommended cancellation and the event promoters have agreed.

During the first two days of the Electric Zoo music festival, two concert-goers have died and at least four others became critically ill and have been placed in intensive care at area hospitals. Definitive causes of death have not yet been determined, however, both appear to have involved the drug MDMA (ecstasy, or molly). The Electric Zoo organizers have worked with City officials to reduce health risks at this event, but in view of these occurrences, the safest course is to cancel the remaining day of the event"

SpaceFest is free with museum admission.

Interested in space, science and technology, astronauts, and robotics? Join us for the Intrepid Museum’s 2nd annual SpaceFest, July 25-28, a 4-day celebration of space, STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), and innovation. Participate in interactive displays from NASA and our other partners, astronaut appearances, an astronomy night, a free screening of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) on the Flight Deck, and more. And of course check out the recently reopened Space Shuttle Pavilion, featuring Enterprise.

Current and former astronauts Ellen S. Baker, Charles J. Camarda, Lee M.E. Morin, Jeffrey Hoffman, and Mario Runco, Jr., along with aerospace technician Tim Keyser, are scheduled to be on hand, signing autographs and giving presentations. Meanwhile, Pier 86 will come alive with robotics demonstrations, educational presentations, the unveiling of LEGO Space Shuttle Enterprise, an inflatable climbing wall, and, on Sunday, Star Wars characters will be on hand for photo opportunities.

All activities taking place on Pier 86 are free to the public, while programs and activities inside the Museum and the Space Shuttle Pavilion require purchasing Museum admission. The Intrepid Museum will have extended hours throughout SpaceFest, open 10:00am to 6:00pm from July 25 to 28.

NASA will have an active presence at SpaceFest, and its exhibit, Innovate – Explore – Discover – Inspire, will highlight NASA's missions to understand and protect Planet Earth, conduct research on the International Space Station, extend human reach into deep space, and to explore our solar system and beyond. Celebrating Pride in NYC, including info on buying tickets to Pride parties

New York City celebrates Gay Pride each June (June 28 to June 30, 2013), to honor what many consider to be one of the foremost events in the history of lesbian and gay rights, the Stonewall Riots, which commenced early in the morning on June 28, 1969.

2013 Mermaid Parade is Saturday, June 22nd at a new time, 1pm!

2013 Mermaid Parade is Saturday, June 22nd at a new time, 1pm!

King Neptune Judah Friedlander  Queen Mermaid Carole Radziwill

The Mermaid Parade is the largest art parade in the nation. A celebration of ancient mythology and honky-tonk rituals of the seaside, it showcases over 1,500 creative individuals from all over the five boroughs and beyond, opening the summer with incredible art, entrepreneurial spirit and community pride. The parade highlights Coney Island Pageantry based on a century of many Coney parades, celebrates the artistic vision of the masses, and ensures that the summer season is a success by bringing hundreds of thousands of people to the amusement area in a single day.

The MERMAID PARADE specifically was founded in 1983 with 3 goals: it brings mythology to life for local residents who live on streets named Mermaid and Neptune ; it creates self-esteem in a district that is often disregarded as “entertainment”; and it lets artistic New Yorkers find self-expression in public.

Unlike most parades, this one has no ethnic, religious, or commercial aims. It’s a major New York holiday invented by artists! An American version of the summer-solstice celebration, it takes pride of place with West African Water Festivals and Ancient Greek and Roman street theater. It's features participants dressed in hand-made costumes based on themes and categories set by us. This creates an artistic framework on which artists can improvise, resulting in the flourishing of frivolity, dedication, pride, and personal vision that has become how New York celebrates summer.

The 2013 parade will still highlight our ability to mix high and low culture on the beach, as we partner with several Bensonhurst-based muscle car clubs, the Hungry March Band, and our celebrity King and Queen (not yet identified, but past royalty have included Laurie Anderson, Moby, Jackie “the Joke Man”, and others). It will include floats by participants as well as our sponsors and community partners (including the New York Aquarium, Deno’s Wonder Wheel, and Luna Park).

* The Parade will start at West 21st Street and Surf Avenue
* The Parade will roll east to West 10th Street
* At West 10th Street the Parade will turn south towards the boardwalk
* Cars and Motorized Floats continue down Surf Ave. passing W. 10th Street and exit the parade.
* At the Boardwalk, the marchers and push-pull floats will turn west and head towards West 17th St.
* At Steeplechase Plaza, the Parade will disband.

A Subway Series is a series of Major League Baseball games played between teams based in New York City; referring to the fact that every potential venue for such a game is accessible through the Subway. The term's historic usage has been in reference to World Series games played between New York teams.

The New York Yankees have appeared in all Subway Series games as they have been the only American League team in the city, and have compiled an 11–3 record in the fourteen championship Subway Series. Since 1997, the term Subway Series has also been applied informally to interleague play during the regular season between the Yankees and National League New York Mets, although the term is still most commonly associated with World Series play.
