 Every August, Go Topless Day New York City takes place the Sunday closest to Women’s Equality Day. Celebrating gender equality and women’s right to vote, Go Topless Day New York City attendees stand up for women’s rights by going topless in public. Participants meet at Bryant Park, and march to Times Square and back. 

The 2013 Go Topless Day New York City invites everyone to join the march at noon. Check the Go Topless Day website to learn about other event locations across the country.

Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day presented by Hess is the largest single-day, grassroots tennis and entertainment event in the world, with chart-topping performers, celebrities and some of the best tennis players in the game coming together to celebrate the life and values of tennis legend and humanitarian Arthur Ashe. The event takes place the Saturday before the US Open.

Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day features a ticketed Stadium Show and concert inside Arthur Ashe Stadium preceded by a free Grounds Festival on the grounds of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

Among those who have performed at the Ashe Kids’ Day on their way to stardom are Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Sean Kingston, Demi Lovato, Ne-Yo, Gavin DeGraw, Carly Rae Jepsen and the Jonas Brothers. A "Who’s Who?" of the tennis world has given back to the game during this fun-filled afternoon, including Andre Agassi, Kim Clijsters, Lindsay Davenport, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, John McEnroe, Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams and Venus Williams. They’ve been joined by celebrities including Alec Baldwin, Nick Cannon, John Cena, Ellen DeGeneres, Will Ferrell Tony Hawk, Randy Jackson, Matthew Morrison, and Kenan Thompson.

The free Grounds Festival offers interactive games, music and tennis activities for all ages so that kids and their families can enjoy the health and fitness benefits of tennis. Families can test their skills, watch top tennis pros and have a chance to win prizes. The Grounds Festival also features a free concert with exciting up-and-coming talent on the Hess Express Stage.

The proceeds from Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day help support USTA Serves, the USTA’s national charitable foundation, and the National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) network. NJTL was founded by Ashe, Charlie Pasarell and Sheridan Snyder and is a nationwide group of more than 600 nonprofit youth-development organizations that provide free or low-cost tennis, education and life-skills programming to more than 325,000 children each year.

Intrepid is kicking of its 2nd annual SpaceFest Thursday.

SpaceFest is free with museum admission.

Interested in space, science and technology, astronauts, and robotics? Join us for the Intrepid Museum’s 2nd annual SpaceFest, July 25-28, a 4-day celebration of space, STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), and innovation. Participate in interactive displays from NASA and our other partners, astronaut appearances, an astronomy night, a free screening of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) on the Flight Deck, and more. And of course check out the recently reopened Space Shuttle Pavilion, featuring Enterprise.

Current and former astronauts Ellen S. Baker, Charles J. Camarda, Lee M.E. Morin, Jeffrey Hoffman, and Mario Runco, Jr., along with aerospace technician Tim Keyser, are scheduled to be on hand, signing autographs and giving presentations. Meanwhile, Pier 86 will come alive with robotics demonstrations, educational presentations, the unveiling of LEGO Space Shuttle Enterprise, an inflatable climbing wall, and, on Sunday, Star Wars characters will be on hand for photo opportunities.

All activities taking place on Pier 86 are free to the public, while programs and activities inside the Museum and the Space Shuttle Pavilion require purchasing Museum admission. The Intrepid Museum will have extended hours throughout SpaceFest, open 10:00am to 6:00pm from July 25 to 28.

NASA will have an active presence at SpaceFest, and its exhibit, Innovate – Explore – Discover – Inspire, will highlight NASA's missions to understand and protect Planet Earth, conduct research on the International Space Station, extend human reach into deep space, and to explore our solar system and beyond.
